“Using google search correctly can help you sell books and reach readers.”

Penelope‘s insight:

I will admit that when people start talking Google SEO, crawling, indexing and search algorithmic rankings my eyes start glazing over!

I have used many different avenues for book promotion, but never gave much heed to Google search. Perhaps if we pay it a bit more attention, we might get better rankings, and possibly have better sales of our books.

One aspect of this article you might want to take a look at is how Google search works. Google has released an interactive infographic, “How Search Works” that will give us a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the process from start to finish.

If you have some extra time left over after writing, and keeping up with all your other social media obligations, take a peek at Google Search and see if you want to add it onto your list of “Author: things to do”.

5 Simple Steps to Marketing your Blog’s Content with Social Media – Jeff Bullas

5 Simple Steps to Marketing your Blog’s Content with Social Media.

Penelope‘s insight:

Jeff Bullas has shared, in his usual funny way, some very simple but effective tips to share your content with the world.  He states that a blogger needs to develop the skills of a drug dealer, a teacher and a chef. Authors love to write, and they should be writing every day, but we also need to add in a bit of time to promote that writing.

At the very least, you should have a blog (your home for your books), and once you have your blog, you should tie it in to other social media channels to promote.  Here’s a few of the top ones:

 1) FACEBOOK

2) TWITTER

3) GOOGLE+

4) PINTEREST

5) LINKED IN

By the way, this is made so much easier with Scoop. It content curation. You can set up the scoops to update your blog, and all your other social media feeds. Also make sure to include an RSS subscription feed, on your blog, so people can keep updated with your content.

Content – Just what the title says… along with an infographic and a host of examples, illustrations, and explanations.

Penelope‘s insight:

I must admit that I don’t spend time trying to trick Google into pushing my content higher and higher in the rankings. I’m no SEO expert, but I admit I was a wee bit curious as to what content this author suggests Google loves.

1) INTERVIEWS – I have started doing author interviews on my radio show as a way to share authors and their books with the world. This is an excellent way to drive people to YOU and your CONTENT–as well as an avenue to help others in the process. Check out the exciting new upcoming author interviews, and you may tweet, facebook, Google+ and share however you like! 😉

2) REVIEWS – Authors are already excellent at doing this. We read each other’s work and review on Amazon, Goodreads, Blogs, etc. We tweet, facebook, and share as a way of helping each other. You can also do video interviews right on Amazon, if you feel comfortable with this.

The excellent graphic shows us all 17 Google Content Tips. What is the age old wisdom? When you help others to succeed, you will succeed yourself!
