I have seriously been considering putting together some promotional videos for my books. Video, combined with your blog posts, can speak to the people in a way that words alone cannot. Plus, you can make them funny, sad, goofy, or whatever.  Think about your books and their topics, and how you (or a Fiverr.com outsourcer) can create a video to promote these books to the world.

 

In this Episode, Eli the Computer Guy shows you how to increase the revenue you earn off of YouTube videos by embedding your videos onto your website. This eleven minute video will show you how.

Hemingway’s Boat author Paul Hendrickson receives Chicago Tribune Heartland Prize for nonfiction

Where we do we find ideas for our books? Anywhere and anytime, apparently. My own ideas come to me in the strangest places, and at the oddest times. In the shower, in between my dream state and my final awakening the morning, in the car, watching television, or reading. Here’s one theory from an award-winning author:

 

“My theory on book-writing,” said author Paul Hendrickson, “is that we don’t find our books – they find us.”In town this weekend to receive the 2012 Chicago Tribune Heartland Prize for Nonfiction for “Hemingway’s Boat: Everything He Loved in Life, and Lost,” Hendrickson discussed what inspired him to tackle the Ernest Hemingway legend from a slightly new angle — specifically, that of the author’s beloved fishing boat Pilar, which played such an integral role in “Papa’s” Cuban period.

Writing Group Etiquette | Beyond The Margins

You do not have to “go it alone”. We are social creatures, and we were created for interaction with others. How will you know what people think of your writing, and your books, if you don’t get some kind of feedback? Your computer doesn’t talk back to you, and you can’t grow, as a writer, unless you receive some feedback from your fellow man.

 

This post gives some great tips for finding some others that you can click with, interact with, and grow with. There are all kinds of writing groups, from impromptu wine-fueled evenings in somebody’s loft, to groups that follow a rigid schedule every third Monday of the month, to an open format where anybody can bring in pages every meeting.

 

It doesn’t matter what “kind” of group you join–just find one and join!

I believe it goes back to kindergarten, when we were instructed to cut pictures out of magazines and paste them in random places on colorful construction paper to make collages. What fun! However, don’t be fooled by the simplicity of this seemingly simple child’s play. It can be a very powerful promotional tool. Many use Pinterest to promote their products, and even create boards that they use to run contests straight from their pins.

 

Keep this in mind: The pictures can link to wherever you choose. When you pin, keep that in mind. You are not only pinning the picture, but also the link. Pinterest is the hottest social media site around, and women are the movers and shakers of this visual media revolution.

Amazon gives us so many F-R-E-E tools to promote our books, if we would but use them. If you have your book up for sale on Amazon (printed or digital), now there is no excuse not to take advantage of Author Central.

 

Second post in the “50 Ways to Reach Your Reader”, offers so many excellent ideas. Here’s a summary of the three tips to get you started:

 

1) Begin with your Author Page – Sell yourself! Find a great pic to upload, tell your readers who you are–be creative! You can even do a quick author video, and tie in all your social media feeds to your very own page.

 

2) Improve your Book Description – Sell your book! If you don’t know how to write a great sales page, find someone who does. This is your storefront! What is your book all about?

 

3) Get More Reviews – Offer a free copy of your book for reviews, tags, and likes. Visit forums. Try to get at least 5 posted before you offer it for free through KDP. Ask for reviews at the end of your book!
