“Word of Mouse” Marketing is the new term that could be applied to social media marketing. One single click is all it takes to share a story, negative or positive, to the world.
WOM marketing provides authors the ability, at the click of a mouse, to connect with our audience at the speed of light unforeseen in the time of Twain, Dumas, or Hemingway. These authors had to rely on the slow train of word-of-mouth marketing, whereas we can now reach out to hundreds and thousands who may share–to reach millions!
Despite being able to connect with readers–at our discretion–in all parts of the world, some of the old rules still apply.
1) Be COOL and make sure the content you post is unique!
2) Have CONVERSATIONS and actually talk to people. Let YOU shine through.
3) Establish RELATIONSHIPS. People still buy from people they like. This has not changed through the ages.
Know thy mouse–remember the rules–and choose wisely.
